The Ytterbium/ Thulium doped NaYF4 nanoparticles were synthesized by a modified thermal-decomposition method. Currently this product is spherical with a diameter from 10-15nm. The particles were chemically stabilized with hydrophilic surfaces. After the hydrophilic modification, the particles can be dispersed in ethanol or any other polarized solvents, such as water or propanol, to form a stable colloidal solution. The emission intensity is higher than most of the fluorescence dye and could be noticed by naked eyes under regular in-door environment. The life time of the particles are close to unlimited due to the special mechanism. The fluorescence can’t be quenched by heat, surface modification, UV exposure, acid/base or aggregation.
